A New Year and a Resolution from the Past

It is a New Year with new “resolutions”…those ideas and promises that will help us to become better persons, better human beings in our part of the Universe.

One of my goals for this year is to help all women that strive for security to empower themselves and be liberated from fear. Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but striving for this is in itself part of the liberation and a foundation for inner and physical security. I know that I am surrounded by Angels. They have protected me and kept me safe in situations of credible threats. It was precisely during one of those threats of assault that I vowed to help other women stay safe, those that are in similar situations. Thus the idea of my company named after the Guardian Angels that are forever present, with the ever present angel wings in our products and presentations.
It is with gratitude that the Guardian Girls Foundation was formed, to give back to other women and children in safe houses and centers ( SafeSpace in Miami and the Dream Center in LA ). There are so many women that have been and can be helped with these organizations, places where they can be safe and grow with the tools for freedom from fear and a true sense of security.

Athletic Angel Pepper Spray “Hands-Free”

Another year for a resolution to keep fit and healthy….2012…..I know that some of us can’t fit in our walking or jogging routines into the daylight hours. I usually walk either on the beach or on the busy street in front of the beach in the evenings. As I have said before I am not the “Kung Fu” sort of woman who can fight off an assailant with my bare hands. I always walk with my “Athletic Angel Pepper Spray” ready. No longer am I the scaredy-cat, but confidant and empowered knowing that having practiced with the water test insert in the  canister I can put my Athletic Angel into action to save my life and keep me safe. The video on the website GuardianGirls.com  shows how to quickly insert the test cartridge into the canister to practice and then remove the test cartridge and replace it with the very powerful Heat-OC canister.  No excuses….off to do my healthy walk. Stay well and Stay Safe with your Angels. Yvonne

Stay Safe at Work; Be Prepared

There is a recent pattern of violence that has emerged  at the workplace whether it be in private office buildings, government sites or even educational facilities and campuses. Revenge is often the motive but the attacks are frequently against random victims who are in the vicinity. How can you stay safe in the work environment ?

  • Everyone should be prepared…How can each of us prepare and educate ourselves? By empowering yourself by carrying your own self-defense products. Pepper Spray is allowed almost everywhere but cannot be shipped to NY and MA, where they must be bought in a firearms store. Contact your state legislators to complain  and change the restrictive laws in your state.
  •  Why would states with such high crime rates or very high assault rates on university campuses want to restrict us from staying safe with a great product like Pepper Spray ???? Given the fact that 9  of the 50 most dangerous College Campuses in 2010 were in Massachusetts and New York, one would think that the state legislators would want the students to have the most effective means of defending themselves ( Pepper Spray). Many universities now sell Pepper Spray in their campus bookstores.  http://www.thedailybeast.com/galleries/2010/09/13/most-dangerous-colleges-2010.html ( Check the web for your own state laws.)
  • Develop a corporate or office action plan that can be implemented. [ The National Crime Prevention Council offers many tips to help prevent violence at work ]
  • Have a personal plan of action, thought out in advance of what you will do.
  • Check the identity of any strangers who are in your office. If anyone makes you uncomfortable, inform security or management immediately.
  • Don’t stay late if you’ll be alone in the office. Create a buddy system for walking to parking lots or public transportation after hours, or ask a security guard to escort you.
  • Report any broken or flickering lights, dimly lit corridors, broken windows, and doors that don’t lock properly.
  • If you notice signs of potential violence in a fellow employee, report this to the appropriate person. Immediately report any incidents of sexual harassment.
  • Know your company’s emergency plan. If your company does not have such a plan, volunteer to help develop one.
  • If the company does not supply an emergency kit, keep your own emergency supplies (flashlight, walking shoes, water bottle, nonperishable food, etc.) in a desk drawer.
  • If you work at home, in addition to making your home safe and secure, you should hang window treatments that obstruct the view into your office. You don’t want to advertise your expensive office equipment.
  • Review your insurance policy—almost all policies require an extra rider to cover a home office.
  • Mark your equipment with identification numbers, and keep an updated inventory list (with photos, if possible) in a home safe or a bank safe-deposit box. It’s a good idea to keep backups of your work in a secure, separate location as well.
  • Follow the same caution with deliveries and pickups that businesses do. Anyone making a delivery to your home office should be properly identified before you open the door. Do not let the person enter your home.If you own the company, take a hard look at your business—physical layout, employees, hiring practices, operating procedures, and special security risks. Assess the company’s vulnerability to all kinds of crime, from burglary to embezzlement. Follow basic crime prevention principles, and work with local law enforcement to protect your business.
  • Keep your purse, wallet or other valuables with you at all times or locked in a drawer or closet.

College Campus Assaults

The following statistics were compiled by the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault

  • At least 1 in 4 college women will be the victim of a sexual assault during her academic career.Hirsch, Kathleen ”Fraternities of Fear: Gang Rape, Male Bonding, and the Silencing of Women.” Ms., 1(2) 52-56.
  • At least 80% of all sexual assaults are committed by an acquaintance of the victim. Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2010.
  • 60% or more of assaults could have been prevented by self defense measures including the use of Pepper Spray.
  • More than 70% of rape victims knew their attackers, compared to about half of all violent crime victims.2010. Bureau of Justice Stats, DOJ.
  • There are 35.3 incidents of sexual assault per 1,000 female students on a campus as recorded over a 6.91 month period (the academic year of ‘06 – ’07) as reported in the 2010 DOJ Bureau of Justice Statistics report “The Sexual Victimization of College Women.”
  • On average, at least 50% of college students’ sexual assaults are associated with alcohol use. Within the study’s nationally represented sample of college students the results found that 74% of perpetrators and 55% of rape victims had been drinking alcohol prior to the assault.
  • In a survey of high school students, 56% of girls and 76% of boys [some of whom may be incoming college freshmen] believed forced sex was acceptable under some circumstances. Acquaintance Rape: The Hidden Crime.

Let us help all women to be safe, sophisticated and empowered….GUARDIAN GIRLS PEPPER SPRAY, STUN GUN FLASH-LIGHT AND OTHER ACCESSORIES WILL DO THE JOB.

If you live in Massachusetts, New York, Wisconsin, Alaska or Hawaii contact your State Representatives to change the laws to make Pepper Spray and all other self defense products readily available and LEGAL……our voices can be heard…..Yvonne Anderson

A Gift for all Seasons

It’s difficult to think of a gift for the college students in our family. I know that I am not going to have the most current information as to what is “perfect” for them. One thing I want more than anything is that they are safe on and off the campuses. My company’s mission is to keep everyone safe with the most powerful, beautifully designed and effective products on the market. Our GuardianGirls.com website has the most powerful Pepper Spray on the market with unique reloadable cartridges filled with O.C. (oleoresin capsicum) an extremely effective natural chemical that when released creates a cone-shaped instant barrier between you and your attacker.

The best preparation for staying safe is PRACTICE. That is why we have the unique TRAINING CARTRIDGES that can be inserted in place of the Pepper ( HEAT ). This allows everyone to practice anywhere, anytime and know what to do instinctually in case of an attack. No more trying to figure out how the thing works in the moment. Let your movements come naturally ( with practice ). Just remember to replace the Practice Test Cartridge with the extremely powerful HEAT INSERT to keep you safe at all times.

That is my goal….stay safe, stay empowered.

Yvonne
